Impaired is Impaired

I think there is a conception that driving under the influence of cannabis might be few and far between compared to alcohol, but I would say impaired is impaired.

Remembering Mia: A Bright Light

Tell me a little bit about Mia. Who was she? What was she like? Oh gosh. Mia treated everyone equally. Just a bright light to everyone she knew. I remember February 27th, 2022, I got that phone call.

February 27, 2022: The Night of the Crash

The driver went to a liquor store that’s known to sell to teenagers. It’s kind of a rural road. It’s known for some reckless driving, steep hills, very big drop offs. The driver was high. She actually was saying, “Value my life. Value my life,” to the driver,

“Value My Life”: The Final Moments

and the driver was not listening. And within seconds after that, they got in a wreck. It was one of the worst tragedies I’ve seen. They informed me that there was somebody that was deceased on scene.

The Excruciating Pain of Loss

I just wanted to die. I just wish my heart would’ve stopped ’cause the pain has been excruciating. I miss how she makes me laugh. Everyone since the accident who doesn’t know her have been infected by her, and they want to share that too.

The Risks to Everyone in the Car

If you’re impaired on any type of substance, you’re putting everybody at risk. You’re putting yourself at risk, you’re putting your passengers at risk. There is no control. It changes your mindset. It changes you physically. I, I hate it.

The Need for Education and Awareness

It’s just very important to get kids and parents on board with education, with marijuana and how it could really destroy people’s lives. Not just going to jail because the boy who was driving high and drunk is spending up to 14 years in jail.

The Legal Reality for the Driver

His mom still will get him at the end of his sentence. I don’t get Mia.

No Parent Should Ever Have to Bury Their Child

No parent should ever have to bury their child. Mia was doing everything right, but unfortunately, the driver was doing everything wrong that night and it cost her life.

Learning from a Young Age: High Driving Is Not Worth It

Life is so precious. I really want people to know. I want them to see the heartache. You have to understand and learn from a young age that it’s not worth it. It just is not worth it. I think this message will save lives.

Mia Dusek: Killed In A Cannabis Impaired Driving Accident

It was after midnight on February 27, 2022. A group of family friends thought they were making memories, but a choice to mix cannabis and driving changed everything.

Mia Dusek was just 15. She never made it home.

The driver was 16, and marijuana was in the mix. Driving high isn’t harmless. It’s not ‘safer.’ It’s a risk that can take a life — your friend’s, your family, your neighbor, or your own.

Mia’s story is real. Her future ended that night. Before you ever get behind the wheel impaired by marijuana, ask yourself: Is driving high worth someone’s life?
